In Memoriam Peter Brooke (1948- 2024)

Peter was a painter, writer, poet and philosopher in numerous fields of interest. His principal interest was Art & Religion, in particular the cubist technique of painting developed by french artist Albert Gleizes. He was fluent in French and translated numerous texts by Gleizes as well as having worked directly archiving his studies. He was a power house of knowledge regarding Gleizes' philosophy and wrote it down in his books and websites.

Peter maintained the conviction that Gleizes' technique of painting (among others) played an integral role in supporting an active religious life. This was especially true for him in Gleizes' purely abstract work (without any figurative element).

In 1941, Mainie Jellett, former student of Gleizes gave a lecture to the White Stag group titled “Art as a Spiritual Force” in which she attempted to define that 'power [which] draws the onlooker or listener out of himself and away into a new world, a world which he returns from rejuvenated, exalted or in the old greek interpretation of this state, purged'.
